1 Bellwork Mrs. Turner

2 Zoology Monday (9/28/09) Write the question and the answer to the following: What is the difference between diploid and haploid? Animals are heterotrophs. What does that mean and why is mobility important? What is a blastula? What are the three tissue layers that are formed during blastulation? What are tissues? What do the ectoderm, endoderm and mesoderm give rise to (what organs and/or tissue)? Reminder:  Test Friday, October 2 on Chapter 28 If you have not had your notebook checked, leave it on the floor behind my desk and I will check it between classes.

3 Zoology Tuesday(9/29/09) Test Friday, October 2 on Chapter 28
Write the question and the answer to the following: What is a coelom? What is the difference between an acoelomate, pseudocoelomate, and true coelomate? What is segmentation? What is a phylogenetic tree? Describe each of the eight features animals have in common. Summarize the difference between radial symmetry and bilateral symmetry. Compare the body plans of acoelomates, pseudocoleomates, and true coelomates. Reminder:  Test Friday, October 2 on Chapter 28 If you have not had your notebook checked, leave it on the floor behind my desk and I will check it between classes.

4 Zoology Wednesday(9/30/09)
Write the question and the answer to the following: What is a gastrovascular cavity? How is an open circulatory system different from a closed circulatory system? What is a hydrostatic skeleton? What is the difference between an exoskeleton and an endoskeleton? What is respiration? What are gills? What are three ways an animal may breathe? What is a nerve net? Reminder:  Test Friday, October 2 on Chapter 28 If you have not had your notebook checked, leave it on the floor behind my desk and I will check it between classes..

5 Zoology Thursday(10/1/09) Test Friday, October 2 on Chapter 28
Write the question and the answer to the following: What is the difference between internal and external fertilization? What is the difference between asexual and sexual reproduction? What are hermaphrodites? What is parthenogenesis? Where are male sex cells (sperm) produced? Where are female sex cells (eggs) produced? Why is external fertilization not practical for animals on land? Reminder:  Test Friday, October 2 on Chapter 28 If you have not had your notebook checked, leave it on the floor behind my desk and I will check it between classes..

6 Zoology Friday(10/2/09) Study for your test on Chapter 28.
Don’t forget to turn in your Chapter 28 Directed Reading to the period drawer before you leave today. When you are finished with the test, begin Chapter 29 Directed Reading. Please respect those that have not finished their test and work quietly until the end of the period.

7 Science Skills Monday (9/28/09)
Write the question and answer to the following: What is mitosis? What are sister chromatids? Why is mitosis important to your body? What are the job of protein fibers during mitosis? What happens to the nuclear membrane before, during and after mitosis? The cells from mitosis…are they haploid or diploid?

8 Science Skills Tuesday(9/29/09)
Write the question and answer to the following: What is meiosis? What are the steps of meiosis? What is puberty? What is a polar body? How do the number of chromosomes at the beginning and ending of meiosis compare? Compare the results of meiosis between human male and female sex cells. Describe changes in chromosomes during meiosis.

9 Science Skills Wednesday(9/30/09)
Please write the question and the answer to the following: How do the number of chromosomes in the beginning of meiosis compare with the number at the end? What is a polar body? What is the advantage of producing more eggs than sperm? How many cells result from meiosis? What are the 8 stages of meiosis? How many times does the cell divide in mitosis and meiosis?

10 Science Skills Thursday(10/1/09)
Please write the question and the answer to the following: What is puberty? In which step of meiosis do the sister chromatids separate? How many times does the cell divide in mitosis and meiosis? Where do sperm form? Where do eggs form? What two places do cells get their DNA?

11 Science Skills Friday (10/2/09)
Mitosis/Meiosis lab

12 Silent Reading Time The first 20 minutes of 4th period is designated as reading time. Please bring reading material to read silently during this period. If you do not have reading material, I have magazines available on my desk or books on my shelf. Please return them when you are finished using them for reading period. This period is for reading only. Please do not visit, work on homework, or sleep.
