DRAFT America Makes Parts Family Classification Working Group Charter
Purpose: The Purpose of the Additive Manufacturing Parts Family Classification Working Group is establish a framework to enable sharing of success stories, qualification and certification history, and other information to facilitate adoption of AM for sustainment. This includes obsolescence and DMSMS. The objective of building a framework for parts family information is to reduce the inherent barriers that result from the perception of risk. We will help expand the knowledge of the AM Community by providing more information in several areas detailed below. Develop and deliver AM Technology in support of providing solutions for DoD DMSMS and obsolescence issues such as situations where rapid response, low quantity demand and limited TDP are challenges. Interfaces: America Makes AM Maintenance and Sustainment Advisory Group DoD Additive Manufacturing for Maintenance Operations (AMMO) Working Group America Makes Management Team and MAMLS AFRL Project Working Group Leaders: Chair – Marilyn/TBD Sponsor – America Makes AM for M&S Adv.Group Chair Marilyn Gaska & Dave Siddle, America Makes/MAMLS PM Objectives: Focusing specifically on the use of additive manufacturing for sustainment of commercial and defense equipment, the Working Group will: Develop and deliver detailed technical clarification for various uses of AM along with definitions Traditional AM Cold Spray Repair Develop and deliver technical information on “families” of AM Parts including materials/materials properties/repeatability/quality. Leverage parts family efforts/demos from America Makes AFRL Maturation of Advanced Manufacturing for Low-cost Sustainment (MAMLS) Project. Develop and deliver technical information on use of various AM Machines and materials and output Develop and deliver information concerning AM Parts and the logistics process Are New Part Numbers required? Keep old part numbers because of bureaucracy avoidance? Develop and deliver technical information for avoiding use of new technologies as a result of engineering risk mitigation Working Group Members: (charter) Greg Colvin, Honeywell Dana Ellis, NCMS William Frazer, NAVAIR Marilyn Gaska, Lockheed Martin Scott Gray, Elevate Systems Cullen Hilkene, 3diligent Oliver McGee, TTU Jonathon Miller, AFRL Jim Regenor/MOOG Team John.VanDoeselaar, Airbus Critical Issues to be considered: Use of AM for Critical Safety Items, Structural Items and Propulsion Items Gather Case Studies that show successes Development of technical data to print parts Different design mindset for 3D Buy in from Government Engineers and education Cost of implementation Deliverables: Overall plan of action and milestones Technical outbriefs of various topics listed in Objectives and Critical Issues White papers for any recommendations for policy updates, etc. Additional event execution plans/reports
