PROPERTIES OF SOUND PROPERTIES OF SOUND
2
REFLECTION When sound is reflected an echo is formed.
If the echo follows very close to the original sound its called a reverberation.
3
PROPERTIES OF SOUND Acoustics- the study and control of sound.
4
To eliminate any reflected sound audiologist use an anechoic chamber.
5
USES FOR REFLECTION
6
REFRACTION Sound waves will bend when there is a change in the temperature of the air.
7
INTERFERENCE Interference of sound waves is the reason for beats in music and sonic booms. Waves experience constructive interference when the plane travels faster than the speed of sound.
8
Constructive Interference
Regular Speed Increased speed Constructive Interference Faster than sound BOOM
9
DOPPLER EFFECT The apparent change in sound frequency
as an object moves. ☺ As the car moves toward you the pitch increases. ☺As it moves away, the pitch decreases
