Grade Point Average (GPA): A = B = C = D = F = and ↓ Cumulative, Core, HOPE, College Determines class rank Talking points: Cumulative – includes all classes taken in high school and quality points for honors and AP/IB; Core – includes classes taken in English, math, science, social studies, and foreign language and quality points for honors and AP/IB; HOPE – includes classes taken in English, math, science, social studies, and foreign language and quality points (.5) for AP/IB if you made below an A; College – varies from school to school (students should check with individual schools) Refer to brochure on HOPE GPA. How Do I Calculate a GPA? Step 1: Assign each grade a numeric value A=4 B=3 C=2 D=1 F=0 Step 2: Multiply the numeric point value by the units of credit attempted Step 3: Total the values from step 2 & divide by the total number of credit attempted AP Courses and some honors classes earn quality points Explain how to calculate the GPA Use this opportunity to discuss quality points and how they are added. Refer to Board rule for which courses receive quality points. September 15th 2018

Graduation Requirements Promotion requirements 9th to 10th: 5 units (1 unit each in required or core Lit, math, science) 10th to 11th: 10 units (2 units each in required or core Lit, math, science) 11th to 12th: 16 units and have met all other promotion requirements 23 Required Credits (see handout) EOC/Milestones count as 20% in certain courses Remember: EOCs were waived for Refer to handout of graduation requirements Refer to Administrative Rule IKE for detailed promotion requirements September 15th 2018

11 Earning High School Credit
Earning High School Credits Earn 1 unit of credit per SEMESTER long course. Earn 4 units per semester, 8 units per year. Credits earned at the end of first semester (December) and second semester (May) are RECORDED on the high school transcript. Must earn a grade of 70 or above to earn credit.

No charge; McEachern High School is paying for your child to take the test -This is an excellent opportunity for you to have a baseline for prep for the SAT *** All 9th grade students should register for a free account. This site offers free SAT tutorial (even an SAT question every day sent to your phone!)

25 Homework There should be approx. 1½ hours of homework a night

26 How can Parents help? Make sure you are checking ParentVUE regularly. This allows you to view attendance and grades. Parents are encouraged to obtain their own access and not rely on their child to report grades. To attain ParentVUElogin information, please see Mrs. Adams in Russell Hall. You are required to show a picture ID! Encourage your student to get involved Encourage your student to take advantage of tutoring opportunities
