Why a new Bac? Too many final exams organized in a short amount of time Two years of coursework not taken into account Getting the Bac is no longer a predictor of success for higher ed in France (not applicable to the US) Need for more flexibility in the choice of courses

Internal assessment in Europe

In a nutshell... French in junior year plus 4 exams in senior year count for 60% of final grade Internal assessment during two years counts for 40% of final grade: 30% determined by big tests and 10% report card grades. French exam stills takes place at the end of grade 11. No more series S and ES

4 exams in senior year + French in Junior year= 60%
1 French exam in junior year 2 exams taken in spring of the senior year on the two specialty courses (majors) chosen by the student 1 philosophy exam taken in June of senior year. 1 oral exam in June of senior year where the student will explain and defend a two year project (The maturity oral)

Internal assessment both years = 40%
Test banks will be created for all French schools. These tests will not be graded by the students’ teachers. Here’s an example of timeline: January and April of junior year and December of senior year. Report cards will account for 10% of this internal assessment grade.
