1 Regulatory Changes and Industry Engagement
Adam Johnson My original intent today was to talk to you about the upcoming changes in the Remediation Guidelines that were to take effect January 1st Part of the motivation of my company asking me to prepare this presentation was to bring a consistent awareness of upcoming changes to our contemporaries, in other words they wanted me to scare everyone else with environmental ambiguity as much as I’ve scared them, so that we all play fair. The day after confirming that I was going to attend the sector meeting, I received an asking for feedback regarding the draft versions of the Remediation Certificate and Tier 2 Compliance Letter Guides. As I began my review of the documents I started to consider how this was going to affect my presentation and what everyone else’s interpretation of the draft documents would be. Then I questioned where this was coming from and who else was involved in the review process. I couldn’t' see addresses to any other highway maintenance contractors and it drove me to change my scope. I still want to provide a very basic perspective on some of the regulations, so that you have that ambiguous discomfort about environmental concerns, but I was also want to give an endorsement to ARHCA’s Environmental Committee.
