Four years medical school One or more years as an intern At least three years in residency An optional one to eight year in fellowship Training in sub-fields of neurology such as neurophysiology, brain injury, epilepsy, and vascular neurology This career is a good fit for me because I love science, math, medicine, and the challenge to always learn. I chose neurology because it’s a part of medicine that has changed the most in the last 20 years. Scientists are always learning more about the brain and its functions.

I was surprised how expensive housing was in the Stanford area.

Dinner For dinner, I cooked beef and vegetable stir fry with rice. I’ve made it before so it was no big deal to make. We had egg rolls with it…ymmm! However, it’s the first time my mom actually left the kitchen while I was cooking. Of course, I had to do all the clean-up…hate it! I had my little sister help me. My family liked it, and it was good. Did not have any difficulties cooking.

College Loans and Savings
For my college loans, I simply took the average that we were given, $320 per month. I know that my Medical School loans would be substantially more, but I did not include that in my chart and my budget because I don’t know the amounts. For my savings, my goal is to set aside 10% of my gross income each month to put into savings. That will be more challenging earlier in my career because I’ll be earning less money. On the other hand, I need to continue to save for a home and other large purchases.
