Things every senior should know… 1. You need at least 40 credits to graduate, some courses are graduation requirements. 2. You need to have a passing score on the Algebra I and English 10 ISTEP or complete a Graduation Pathway. 3. You need 2 PE credits. 4. You need at least one SAT or ACT score to be admitted to college. 5. You will apply to college(s) in the first semester of your senior year 6. You will apply for scholarships in the second semester of your senior year. 7. You are allowed college visitations. 8. All forms and documents can be found on on the JHS guidance website 9. If you are failing an AP or Honors class at the end of the first semester you will be moved to the next lower level course in the same subject

7. For the Core 40 with Technical Honors Diploma, students must:
Complete all requirements for Core 40.
Earn 6 credits in the college and career preparation courses in a state-approved College & Career Pathway and one of the following:
Pathway designated industry-based certification or credential, or
Pathway dual credits from the lists of priority courses resulting in 6 transcripted college credits
Complete one of the following,
- Any one of the 5 options for the Core 40 with Academic Honors
- Earn the following scores or higher on WorkKeys; Reading for Information – Level 6, Applied Mathematics – Level 6, and Locating Information-Level 5.
- Earn the following minimum score(s) on Accuplacer: Writing 80, Reading 90, Math 75.
- Earn the following minimum score(s) on Compass; Algebra 66, Writing 70, Reading 80.

8. General Diploma
A general diploma is only available to students whose parents feel students are unable to complete the Core 40 curriculum.
To graduate with less than Core 40, a formal Opt- out process must be completed.
Core 40 is an admissions requirement to attend a public four-year university in Indiana (Core 40 is a minimum requirement – colleges may have additional admissions requirements).
Financial aid from the state may be less or non- existent for a student earning a general diploma

9. Core 40 Opt-Out Process
The student, the student’s parent/guardian, and the student’s counselor meet to discuss the student’s progress.
The student’s career/course plan is reviewed.
The student’s parent/guardian determines whether the student will achieve greater educational benefits by completing the general curriculum or the Core 40 curriculum.

ETHNIC STUDIES: Ethnic Studies provides a framework to broaden students’ perspectives concerning historical and contemporary lived
experiences and cultural practices of ethnic and racial groups in the United States. This course may either focus on a particular ethnic or racial group or take a comparative approach across multiple groups. The course may include an analysis of the economic, intellectual,social, and political contributions of an ethnic or racial group(s), as well as the socio-political and economic forces that create systemic challenges to accessing resources and opportunities. As a result, this course will better prepare students for an increasingly diverse, global community and participation in a democratic society.

15. Government, We the People
GOVERNMENT, We The People: In addition to the regular Government course content students will cover the We The People Curriculum. The primary goal of We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution program is to promote civic competence and responsibility among Indiana's elementary, middle and high school students. The program includes an instructional component, focused on enhancing students’ understanding of the institutions of American constitutional democracy and discovering the contemporary relevance of the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and a culminating activity of a simulated congressional hearing in which students “testify” before a panel of judges. Students demonstrate their understanding of constitutional principles and have opportunities to evaluate, take, and defend positions on relevant historical and contemporary issues. This class meets the Government class graduation requirement for an Indiana high school diploma

PLTW CYBERSECURITY
PLTW Cybersecurity is a full-year course. The design of the course exposes high school students to the ever growing and far reaching field of cybersecurity. Students accomplish this through problem based learning, where students role-play as cybersecurity experts and train as cybersecurity experts do. PLTW Cybersecurity gives students a broad exposure to the many aspects of digital and information security, while encouraging socially responsible choices and ethical behavior. It inspires algorithmic thinking, computational thinking, and especially, “outside-the-box” thinking. Students explore the many educational and career paths available to cybersecurity experts, as well as other careers that comprise the field of information security. The course contains the following units of study: Personal Security, System Security, Network Security, and Applied Cybersecurity.

36. Things to Remember…..
Student schedules change each semester. Order of classes and teachers can change. We cannot accommodate requests for specific teachers or class periods.
There are several opportunities to change classes, however, many of the popular classes fill up and may close. Selecting the classes you want at registration important.
Keep track of all dual credit coursework
You can make changes to your course requests until June 30. After June 30 no changes will be made until AFTER school resumes in August.
Transcripts are distributed to students at the beginning of each semester. Please check them for accuracy
On the enrollment form Study Hall has a 100 and/or 200 course number. 100 is first semester and 200 is second semester.
