SLOPE
2
Slope from an equation Equation of a Line in slope-intercept form: y = mx + b where m is the slope and b is the y- intercept. Look for the coefficient of x. THAT IS THE SLOPE. Be sure to include negatives as needed. If there is no coefficient, slope is either 1 or -1. If the equation is y = a number with no x, the slope is 0. If the equation is x = and there is no y, the slope is undefined.
3
Slope from Ordered Pairs or Two Points
Label the points ( π₯ 1 , π¦ 1 )( π₯ 2 , π¦ 2 ) Write the formula for slope π¦ 2 β π¦ 1 π₯ 2 β π₯ 1 Plug in the numbers into the correct places in the formula. Solve using your integer rules. SIMPLIFY as needed. Pay attention to positive or negative when looking at your fraction.
4
Slope from a table (TWO WAYS)
First Way Look at the y side and find how it changes each time. Change in y Look at the x side and find how it changes each time. Change in x Slope is πΆβππππ ππ π¦ πΆβππππ ππ π₯ or Ξπ¦ Ξπ₯ because triangle means change. SECOND WAY Choose two points and use the formula for slope. π¦ 2 β π¦ 1 π₯ 2 β π₯ 1
5
Slope from Graphs (TWO WAYS)
FIRST WAY Find any two points on the graph. Points are where the graph crosses through the corner of a box on the coordinate grid. Draw a right triangle connecting the two points using the lines on the coordinate grid. Count the boxes outside the lines you drew. Slope is π£πππ‘ππππ πβππππ βππππ§πππ‘ππ πβππππ or πππ π ππ’π Pay attention to if your line is rising (positive) or falling (negative)
