Warm-Up
2
Homework - Worksheet Knowing relationship between Scale factor, ratio of perimeters and ratio of areas Word problems – need to show conversion of ratio if needed, need to show work on how you are calculating answer, need to label answer Last Problem – what sides are corresponding based on the names
3
Homework - Book Part A 1 and 4 make sure you explain why and if yes state scale factor (not ratio of areas) 2 a picture may help with your explanation 15 – 18 multiple choice no real work, know relationship of similar figures, know angle relationship of parallelograms 24 Make sure you explain why, you can explain why people are wrong, but mainly need the correct person and why 25 show set up for getting scale factor, show set up for calculating height of cliff, label answer Part B 44 – follow steps and sketch the picture, find areas by looking at triangles, a table may help to see relationships, make sure you explain for d and e 45 – similar to 44 but with triangles 53 – Similar to work we did in class last 2 days, make sure you show work to help support your answers
4
More Nested Triangle Examples
Triangles formed are similar label as many sides lengths as you can 3 similar triangles, small, medium and large
5
Triangles and Quadrilaterals
Triangles – sum of angles is 180 Quadrilaterals – sum of angles is 360 Parallelogram – base angles add to 180 or supplementary, opposite angles are congruent Break it into 2 congruent/similar triangles and corresponding angles will be congruent
6
Essential Questions What types of quadrilaterals are rep-tiles?
Rectangles, Squares, Parallelograms, Rhombus, Some trapezoids measurement need to be specific for them to work How do rep-tiles show that a scale factors and areas of similar quadrilaterals are related? Ratio of Areas is Scale factor squared 2. Which types of triangles are rep-tiles? Explain. Right, Equilateral, Scalene, Isosceles, Take the larger triangle and you can divide it into smaller similar/congruent triangles How can you use scale factors to draw similar figures or to find missing side lengths in similar figures? Use the scale factor to multiple side lengths of one figure to make corresponding side lengths of another figure, know how perimeter and area of figures are related to get the scale factor Find scale factor by using corresponding sides and use this to multiple side of one figure to side of second figure How can you use similar triangles to find a distance that is difficult to measure directly? As long as triangles are similar, congruent corresponding angles the sides should be using the same scale factor, similar to question 3 for set up
7
Key ideas based on Essential Questions
Scale factor and ratio of perimeters are the same Scale factor squared is the ratio of areas Square root of the ratio of areas is the scale factor If scale factor is < then it represents going from large to small If scale factor is > then it represents going from small to large Scale factor of L to S is reciprocal of Scale Factor of S to L
8
Quiz Friday Vocab problems based on Commutative and Associative properties Relationship of Scale factor, Ratio of Perimeter, Ratio of Areas Calculating Missing sides and angles of similar figures Word problems/Application
9
What angles are congruent?
What is the scale factor to be used to find the length of the missing sides?
