Sample environment for Spectroscopy (TEFI, PREMP)
Alex Holmes Scientific Activities Division 16 February, 2019
2
Sample Environment Reference Suite
Sample Environment Reference Suite based on instrument needs. Timelines determined by instrument construction schedule. NSS construction budget covers the needs of the first 8 instruments #1-#8. Additional budget provision for instruments #9-#16 in (pre-) ops 5yOPS19-23 Most Sample Env. Equipment is within SSS budget but some instrument specific equipment remains part of instrument construction. Execution responsible involves (potential) expert team as agreed. Budget leverage: refurbished equipment; collaborative projects; grants.

Questions for STAP Day 1 priorities for sample environment?
Motion axes needed Magnet for spectroscopy – endorsement by STAP helpful Magnet for spectroscopy – advice on trade-offs: Field (min acceptable) Angle (vertical & horizontal). Multiple positions acceptable? Max amount of material in beam. Internal guides, collimation? Experience with SE/instrument integration – major things to plan for (e.g. force testing, vacuum testing, adequate utilities, chopper interaction).
