The test will take place Tuesday, October 25th. Use your note-helper pages and this PowerPoint to assist in your preparation.

2 Geography: U.S.A.: Appalachian Mountains-oldest mountain range in N. America and has gotten smaller due to erosion Mississippi-One of the longest rivers in America, is east of the Great Plains, and is a transportation corridor Coastal Plains-flat, low lying area next to the coast, often have major cities located by them, for example: Houston and Boston

Indigenous people, who crossed the Land Bridge from Asia continued South because much of Canada was covered with ice Northern Lands are mostly a subarctic climate Great Lakes-flows into the St. Lawrence River and is one of the largest, fresh water group of lakes in the world Human Environment Interaction-levees control flooding, but also reduce the flow of silt/sediment needed for farming Fossil Fuels-Both the U.S.A. and Canada depend upon fossil fuels to power businesses, homes, and transportation British Columbia-Very much like northwestern U.S. and has five of Canada’s national parks

4 History: U.S.A.: Native Americans, considered indigenous, as they were the first people here Urbanization-after machinery improved farming efficiency people moved to the city to find jobs Great Britain-competed with the French for control of the Americas

5 Government: U.S.A.: Economy-the free enterprise system allows private property which enables citizens to own businesses Government has little involvement in the economy but does make sure businesses are fair and safe for the consumer U.S. Constitution-provides for the protection of citizens and makes sure the powers of the government are balanced/shared among the branches Voting is a right and responsibility in the United States Global Interdependence-when one country depends upon another for goods, services, or natural resources Importing-goods coming into the country Exporting-goods leaving the country
