2. Dominion Alliance
The main temperance organizations were the Dominion Alliance for the Total Suppression of the Liquor Traffic and the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union. The WCTU had a newsletter called Canadian White Ribbon Tidings. The Temperance movement was also fueled by women who said that men would return home drunk to do violence against the family.

3. The Dunkin Act
The Dunkin Act allows any municipality or county to prohibit the sale of alcohol with a majority vote. This was eventually extended to the whole dominion of Canada. By 1898 the temperance forces were strong enough to force a nationwide vote to make alcohol illegal, Prime Minister Laurier decided that the majority was not a large enough to pass the vote. Quebec was especially against prohibition                   

4. Alcohol 
Canadian prohibition was the result of generations of effort to close taverns, bars etc, which was a major cause of drunkenness and violence among men.
Prohibition before the war was not so bad, though some local municipal bans were placed in late 19th century to provincial bans in the 20th century. And finally, national bans placed in 1918, used as a temporary temperance measure.
