What do MAT tests look like?
MAP tests are short ADAPTIVE tests - which means it adapts to individuals. Everyone will see different questions and work at different rates. It is COMPUTER BASED – and takes around an hour per test. It is not a formal exam – it will probably happen in the classroom with the teacher. 15/01/2018

Want to know more? You might wonder why the “Grade” is different to “Year” group. MAP is an American system and their grades are one above ours in the UK: So Year 9 = Grade 8 for example. Every single student in OneSchool will be sitting these tests: So it not only helps students to learn it also shows which country is doing best! Ask the maths teacher how the numbers are crunched! English American Year 3 2nd Grade Year 4 3rd Grade Year 5 4th Grade 15/01/2018

Practical Advice Before the tests During the tests After the tests
Ensure students get a good night’s sleep and have a proper breakfast. Keep them hydrated- with water. Help them not benervous- these tests are to help students and teachers. During the tests If students come across a word they don’t understand they can …ASK. Some are a bit American, for example a pie chart is called a ‘circle graph’. Students can use a pencil and paper to help work things out – for example in maths. (or as the Americans call in “Math”). After the tests Classes as normal! When you get results you will be able to see progress and what needs looking at next. 15/01/2018
