2 Lab Safety Begins Before You Go to the Lab!
Always read through the lab instructions before you start the lab. Ask any questions you may have BEFORE you begin. Follow ALL directions! Ask questions any time you are unsure of what to do.

3 Proper Lab Behavior Never indulge in horseplay or behavior that could lead to injury of others. Horseplay is not tolerated! You will receive a zero for the lab.

4 Dressing for Lab Use goggles, gloves, and lab aprons when instructed to do so. (** Note: Goggles must be used even if you wear glasses!) Due to the dangers of broken glass and corrosive liquid spills in the lab, open sandals or bare feet are not permitted in the lab. Dress as directed, or you will not participate.

5 Safe Lab Practices Learn the location and proper usage of the:
eyewash fountain fire extinguisher safety shower fire alarm box office phone number evacuation routes gas shut off First aid kit

6 Safe Lab Practices (cont.)
Do not use lab equipment until instructed to do so. Food, drink, and gum are not allowed in the science lab. Keep the science room clean and organized. Notebooks, sweaters, chairs, etc should be pushed under the tables. Why not gum?

Keep long hair tied back. Do not wear loose clothing that could catch on fire

8 In the Event of a Lab Accident……
Report all accidents regardless of how minor to your teacher immediately. For minor skin burns, immediately plunge the burned area into cold water and notify the teacher.

9 In the Event of a Lab Accident…… (cont.)
If you get any chemical in your eye, immediately wash the eye with the eye-wash fountain and notify the teacher. Immediately notify the teacher of any chemical spill and clean up the spill as directed.

10 At the End of Your Lab Time…
Return all lab materials and equipment to their proper places after use. Dispose of all chemicals AS DIRECTED BY YOUR TEACHER! Wash and dry all equipment and clean up your area.
