God, Our Refuge Ruth 2:1-23

History of Bible

2:1-7 Boaz = “Swiftness” The idea of gleaning after the harvesters as Ruth is doing is found in Leviticus 19:9-10. Ruth “happens” to work in Boaz’s field.

2:8-13 Boaz acknowledges that Ruth has found refuge in the God of Israel (v. 12). Ruth has found favor from Boaz, as he gives her protection and provision.

2:14-16 Boaz gives beyond the necessary requirement (v. 16).

2:17-23 An ephah was about 10 days worth of grain for one person.
Boaz’s actions were of kindness to his family members, both those who passed away and who were living (v. 20). Naomi reveals who Boaz is, a close relative (v. 21).
