SafeVoice is Now Available for You
It’s Anonymous! SafeVoice is Now Available for You What does that mean? Safe Voice is a safe way to share your fears about your friends’ safety or your own Access to help, any time any day SafeVoice app Call (SAFE) SafeVoice is for school safety and student well-being (concerns, bullying) 3 ways to make a report: - mobile app (for kids who have phones, their parents) Hotline Website Explain that SafeVoice does not know who is making the report (anonymous) UNLESS the reporter shares his or her name. Emphasize students should share their name and contact information in the report when they are reporting about their own problems ( for example bullying) or when they are willing to be contacted (be a witness) when they report on a friend’s problem If you don’t want to give your name, that’s OK. You don’t have to use your name, just use your voice.
21
When to Use SafeVoice If you or someone you know is being bullied
If you are worried about a friend who is sad or doing risky things. If someone tries to touch you or a friend in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable OR, if you see violence or weapons at school you can SPEAK UP! Discuss how bullying can also be cyberbullying Discuss how SafeVoice also extends to additional behaviors, like sadness, concern for friends’ safety, mental health.
22
Telling vs. Tattling Tattling on a Classmate Telling an Adult
Keeping school safe Someone could be badly hurt Problem is urgent and important An adult can help solve the problem Avoiding Blame Feelings are hurt You think you will gain something from tattling Problem is made bigger, not solved Discuss the difference between telling and tattling and how telling – an adult - is important and the purpose of SafeVoice. Use inset to have a discussion on the difference between bullying and peer conflict (meanness, hurt feelings ) when you feel someone is excluding you or being mean, realize that’s not how you want to be treated, so go be kind to someone else
