Behave unprofessionally Receptionists are briefed to note candidates’ behaviour while waiting to be called look for polite, mature and professional composure Within the interview candidates should not get too comfortable or too familiar maintain an air of respectful professionalism throughout.

Are late late means irresponsible — someone without the care or forethought to plan ahead Mature, organised, keen and responsible job candidates arrive on time or, preferably, a little early for the interview

Hasn’t researched the company When asked “Why do you want to work here?” Cannot say how their current skills and abilities fit the job description Can’t show any understanding of what the company does

Isn’t a team player. When answering questions they Only mention themselves, never the team Do not acknowledge the input or importance of others to their success Do not recognise team achievements

Lacks insight and/or accountability When asked to "Give an example of a bad decision you have made " Are unable to be introspective, honest, analytical and self-critical Unwilling to say it was their fault Say they have never made a bad decision

Slags off former employers. Even if they do not really like them they should still show some loyalty and discretion They are just as likely to slag off their next employer

Asks inappropriate questions. Good candidates ask about your expectations and how to exceed them demonstrate commitment to the organisation’s interests and intentions to succeed ask questions that illustrate their enthusiasm for being a part of your team Poor candidates ask about what’s in it for the candidate holidays, sick pay, paid leave, benefits
