1 1/26 - 8th Grade Agenda Learning Objective: Learn about Motion
Collect HW: Reading & Notetaking: p.156 – 157 Take back work from last Semester Textbook Reading p HW: Reading & Notetaking p Reminder: Data Table, Graph & Procedure due 2/5 (15 Points)

2 Daily Reflection Prompt: What is the definition of Vector?

3 Difference between Distance and Displacement
Distance is the total length of the actual path between two points. Displacement is the length and direction of a straight line between starting and ending points.

4 What is a Vector A quantity that consists of both a magnitude and a direction is called a vector.

5 What is the International System of Units for measuring length?
Meter How many centimeter in a meter? 100 centimeter in a meter How many meters are there in a kilometer? 1000 meter in a kilometer

6 What is the formula for calculating speed?

7 Which Speed is fastest? 5 300 2 1000

8 Which Speed is fastest? 5 km 300 cm 2 km 1000 m

9 Which Speed is fastest? 5 km / hr 300 cm / hr 2 km / sec 1000 m / hr
2 km/sec is the fastest We need both the distance and time unit of measurement to determine speed

10 What is average speed? The total traveled divided by the total time elapsed. The speed of an object along the path traveled can vary

11 What is difference between velocity and speed?
Velocity: Speed of the object and direction of motion Speed: Just the speed. We don’t know the direction of motion

12 A car was traveling north at 50 km/hr
A car was traveling north at 50 km/hr. It started to travel northwest at 50 km/hr. Did the speed change? Did the velocity change? Speed did not change Velocity changed

13 What is slope of a line? The steepness, or slant, of a line on a graph
Slope tells you the rate of change. What is the slope of the graph? 10 m/s

14 How much did the jogger travel after 1 minute?
About 200 Meters

15 How much did the jogger travel after 5 minutes?
About 800 Meters

16 How much did the jogger travel after 8 minutes?
About 800 Meters

17 Did the jogger move between the 5 minute and 8 minute mark?
No. The jogger was at rest

18 Calculating Slope Rise over Run
