2 Topics to be covered today
Futsal, a key element to player development CJSA longterm goal and plan to grow futsal in Connecticut year over year Coaching & Referee education & Technical resources Current locations Enfield, Suffield, Woodbridge, & Stamford Calendar of events Path forward

3 About Futsal Futsal is FIFA's official indoor soccer game, which is, essentially, a scaled down version of outdoors soccer played Indoors. It is a small-sided game (5v5) played on a smaller field (roughly basketball court sized) with a smaller (size 3-4) and heavier ball. We are currently utilizing school gyms as a primary way to facilitate play throughout the state.

4 Player Development Futsal is Its pace, size of the playing field, number of players, modified rules such as substituting on the fly all demand a much higher level of concentration by the mind and quicker execution by the feet. Its impact on the individual's foot skills and tactical awareness is invaluable. Since 2014 the US Development Academies have increased the utilization of futsal as a key tool in player development.

5 Player Development Touches on the ball –Players will find the ball at their feet more often than ever before and will have just a split second to deal with it. Foot skills –Their foot skills will develop rapidly: it is a constant passing game spiced up with some individual style of dribbling skills. Finishing and GK training – shots are fired and saves being made in every ten seconds! Physical ability – it will allow players to develop speed, agility, quickness and coordination.

6 Player Development Reading and anticipating the flow of the game –Playing proactively rather than just reacting to the game will bring success on the Futsal court, and will transfer over to the soccer field. Transition –Winning and losing possession of the ball will happen quickly; hence changing gears from defense to attack and attack to defense require super fast execution in the mind and in the feet. Small sided environment – the players will be exposed to numerous 1v1, 1v2, 2v1, 2v2 situations. These are key elements of the 11v11 game also.

7 Player Development The field of play –Players who are efficient and successful within this limited space and quick surface, will be very efficient and very successful during the outdoor games, and will be ahead of the game compared to those who don't play Futsal. Tactical awareness – being so close to the ball and having the chance to make an impact in the game will present unlimited amount of decision making opportunities to the players. Whole body workout - from the mind (visualizing and hearing, information processing and deciding, then quickly acting upon) through the body (movements such as twisting, turning, jumping, running, dribbling, passing, shooting) to the spirit (experiencing excitement playing in a non-stop environment)

8 Futsal - translation to Soccer
Futsal world ranking - 26 January 2019 Ranking Team Points rank dec 18 +/- dec 18 1 (1) Brazil 1878 1 2 (2) Spain 1791 2 3 (3) Russia 1667 3 4 (4) Portugal 1665 4 5 (5) Argentina 1663 5 Approximately 20 years ago Russia transformed their indoor training to focus on futsal. This was done partly out of necessity due to a lack of large indoor soccer facilities. They brought in external resources to help develop players, coaches, and leagues. They are currently producing players that are able to play in UEFA’s best leagues and their 2018 World Cup team was the best they have ever produced.
