1. Math Star Students 4/16-4/20 Literacy Calendar Birthdays
Our book for the week is “Jump Rope” and the sight words are “do & out”. Please have your child practice reading and writing their sight words at home. This week begins our study of the human body and how it works.
In Reading Workshop, we will continue in our Poetry Unit. Students will be listening to some great mentor texts filled with poems. They will also be reading some springtime poems on their own and with a buddy.
In Writing Workshop, students will continue to learn about Functional Writing. This week students will read “I Wanna Iguana” and then try to convince someone to get something for them. A skill most kids are great at! But this time, they will have to think of valid reasons and write them in a letter. We will also learn about the purpose for invitations and practice writing them.

Math
This week we will finish Module 11 with a return to 2D shapes. Students will be using 2D shapes to draw pictures. They will also be solving puzzles by building larger 2D shapes with smaller 2D shapes. Students will be asked to name the shapes: circle, square, triangle, rectangle, and hexagon and describe them by telling the number of sides and corners. The students always enjoy using shapes to make pictures!
