The Equator The Equator is equidistant between the North Pole and the South Pole. The Equator is at 0 degrees latitude.

Tropic of Cancer The Tropic of Cancer is in the Northern hemisphere.
The latitude of the Tropic of Cancer is 23 degrees.

Tropic of Capricorn The Tropic of Capricorn is in the Southern hemisphere. The latitude of the Tropic of Capricorn is 23 degrees.

Arctic Circle The Arctic Circle is in the Northern hemisphere.
The latitude of the Arctic Circle is 66 degrees.

Antarctic Circle The Antarctic Circle is in the Southern hemisphere.

The Tropics People in some tropical places call their seasons “hot” and “wet”. The tropics include all of the areas of the Earth where the sun reaches a point directly overhead at least once a year.

Temperate Zone Average yearly temperatures in these regions are not extreme, not burning hot nor freezing cold. Temperate means moderate.

Polar These are the coldest places on Earth because the heat from the sun is less intense. This area includes the North Pole and the South Pole.
