1 SODAS A quick look at FRQs

2 What is an FRQ? An FRQ is a Free Response Question. There are two on the AP exam. Each FRQ is worth 25 points. Students are given a scenario question to answer. The student needs to be able to apply theories, use vocabulary terms and apply their definitions, and answer clearly and deliberately the question or questions being asked.

3 SODAS Space – Leave about 5 lines blank between each separate component of you answer. Order – Answer the components in the same sequence that they are listed in the question. Define – Briefly explain each concept using specific terms. Apply - (to the scenario) – Relate the term to the scenario or connect terms. Each example must reference the specific situation. Synonyms – Do not use the term you are defining in the definition. Replace the term with a synonym.

4 FRQs Dos and Don’ts FRQs must be written in complete sentences.
Do not write them in essay format. (no intro, no conclusion) Do not repeat the question.
