Early Life Full name: Titus Flavius Vespasianus
Born in 9 AD. His father, Flavius Sabinus was a Roman Knight and a tax collector . His mother, Vespasia Pollo belonged to the equestrian order in society. Joined the military service and was appointed the first military command after the invasion of England in 43 AD. Married Flavia Domitilla and had two sons, Titus and Domitian the future emperors, and one daughter named Flavia Domitilla. After his wife died he returned to his mistress Antonia Caenis.

Achievements Received the triumphal honours for his military achievements as a army commander and for his battles/fights he successfully won Built temples, theatre, and the Colosseum Created the Flavian dynasty Vespasian suggested Nero to stop the Jewish rebellion in Judea In 51 AD became consul in Britain and in 63 AD became consul in Africa Theatre of Marcellus

As a Ruler Focused on 3 major objectives:
Wanted to focus on helping Rome with their financial problems Wanted to train the Roman army after the civil wars Lastly, wanted to make sure Rome was at their strongest by the time it was sons turn to rule.

Ways he help Rome Increased taxation on provinces and on the use of public bathrooms Started reclaiming public land Started the construction of the Colosseum Was the first emperor to start paying Latin and Greek Rhetoric teachers Added a new stage to the Theatre of Marcellus Contributed in rebuilding temples such as the Capitoline Temple

The Colosseum Started the construction in 70 AD.
Located on the site of the lake of Nero’s Domus Aurea. Survived several disasters such as being struck by lighting twice and damaged by earthquakes. Entertainment such as hunting display, horse races that took place in water and battles between people and animals.

In the End…. Died in 79 A.D The project of the Colosseum continued and was finished in 80 AD Left the empire in the hands of his son Titus Titus ruled for two years and was succeeded by his brother Domitian.
