Lesson IV Our Rabbi – His Teachings
Lesson Overview & Purpose Yeshua as our rabbi. We want to understand and clarify some passages taken from the Gospel in which Christianity traditionally teaches that Yeshua was against Judaism and Torah is abolished. Yeshua DID NOT abolish the Torah. He walked among us as a Jewish rabbi, teaching the Torah, the kingdom of heaven. Main Bible Verse: Matthew 5:17-19 Main Points Yeshua is Jewish and his name means “salvation” Yeshua was a rabbi Yeshua came to properly interpret the Torah; not to cancel or replace it He did not teach against the Torah, Sabbath, or biblical dietary laws Yeshua is the leaving Torah Yeshua’s law of love does not replace the Torah

Yeshua - Jesus- Section 4.4 Is Jesus his original name? No, “Jesus” is actually is an English transliteration of the Hebrew name “Yeshua” The Hebrew name Yeshua means “salvation” The name Jesus is not pagan origin. It comes from a translation into the Greek language Ιησονς (ee-YAY-soos) The Septugiant (LXX) translates the Hebrew names Yehoshua and Yeshua as Iesous. The “oos” ending on Greek name indicates masculine subject Christ (Christos) and Messiah (Mashiach) means exactly the same thing : Anointed One Master & Rabi – Section 4.6 Jesus was a rabbi, because he was a teacher of the Torah. The job of a rabbi is to teach and interpret the Tora It was a title = to teacher; literally “my great one” or my honorable sir” Torah made “Flesh” John 1 says that the Word became flesh “Word” was a Jewish term for “Torah” Yeshua is the living Torah

Torah-Sermon on the Mount – Section 4.8 The discourse of the Sermon on the Mount does not overturn the Torah. Yeshua made fences around the commandment to keep the Torah from being broken. Fulfill he Torah means to obey the Torah and teach it properly For discussion: What about His Sabbath conflicts with the Pharisees (Matthew 12:1-8)? 4.14 Loving God & Loving Neighbor – Section 4.17 (Matthew 22:40) Yeshua summarized the Torah with two commandments: To love God and to love your neighbor as yourself Yeshua didn’t say that these two commandments replace the Torah Instead, He said they are the greatest commandments on which the rest of the Torah hangs Yeshua kept all commandments of the Torah. He was a spotless lamb
