GIFTED GAZETTE 3.7 Feb. 19th - Feb. 23rd What we’re learning this week… Test Schedule Reading: This week we will… read Because of Winn Dixie concentrate on the skills of theme and how illustrations contribute to the meaning of the text (Amos & Boris) read self-selected novels about friendship in Literature Circles - students will complete book report on the book they have chosen Language/Writing/Vocabulary: This week we will… Orange Vocabulary Workshop Unit 5 Use mentor sentences to identify simple subjects, simple predicates, and adjectives Circle through the writing process by responding to a prompt and citing evidence using our “HARP, REEL, REEL, PAAT” 4-paragraph writing strategy Spelling: utilize dictionary/thesaurus/dictionary.com references and refer to list of “non-negotiable” words in writing portfolio Math: This week we will… enriching with Math Superstars representing unknown numbers using letters or symbols/reviewing measurement concepts beginning geometry unit master 1-12’s facts with “Fluency Friday” speed test: 25 correct facts in 1 minute, 40 seconds Project of the Week (P.O.W.): due Friday Research: President’s Day! Reading: WEDNESDAY practice in-class cold-read task Orange Vocabulary Workshop: FRIDAY Unit 5 Assessment & Language: Mentor Sentence Assessment Graded inventions writing Spelling: Assessed through writing. Students are expected to consult dictionaries, peer editors, computer resources, and “non-negotiable” words to monitor spelling when writing. Math: FRIDAY test on representing unknown numbers using letters or symbols & review of measurement concepts (see classwork packet) A note from the teachers WOW!!! We have been blown away by the phenomenal Friendship Interview presentations. We are learning so much from each other.
