My Veterinary Technology Past
While in my last semester at Richland College I heard about Cedar Valley College and their Veterinarian Technician program. My Associates in Science gave me the prerequisites to be eligible and I was accepted. Cedar Valley College offers a AAHA accredited Veterinary Technician program that when finished you receive and Associate in Veterinary Technology. I graduated from Cedar Valley College and went on to take my State and National exam to become a Registered Veterinary Technician. After graduation, I jumped into the clinic world. I held that title until 2014 when the State of Texas changed the title to a Licensed Veterinary Technician.

Skills obtained through courses

Shelter Animal Medicine
Skills obtained from these courses allow me to manage proper maintenance to the kennel and facility. There is a proper measurement of chemical agents to kill bacteria and not waste money. Text used: Miller, L., & Zawistowski, S. (2013). Shelter Medicine for Veterinarians and Staff. Wiley-Blackwell.

Nutrition Skills that I obtained from this course is to calculate Maintenance Energy Requirements (MER) and Resting Energy Requirements (RER). I am able to do this for the Veterinarian and be a reference for information. Text used: Case, Daristotle, Hayek, & Raasch. (2011). Canine and Feline Nutrition. Maryland Heights: Mosby Elsevier.

All Creatures Veterinary Hospital
Since being here I have used my skills at Tarleton to assist in education and communication to the clientele when the veterinarians needed some help. My skills from surgery and nursing have allowed me to organize the surgery room and to monitor the maintenance of the supplies. In the future I hope to become the trainer for this facility. I want to help the staff further their own education and this in turn will better the clinic and the care of the animals.
12
Future Goals To fulfill my aspirations to teach the Certified Veterinary Assistant program. This would be a great way to educate future veterinary professionals on what is involved in this career.
