1 The Acts of the Apostles
Chapter 1 Questions & Answers

2 Acts 1 questions & answers
What leading role did the apostle Peter have in the Acts of the Apostles? MAT 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock (“you are the Christ”) I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: Peter was given the keys to open the ecclesial door to the circumcision (Jews - Gal.2:8) and the uncircumcision (Gentiles - Acts 10:44,45). Galatians2:8 (for He who worked effectively in Peter for the apostleship to the circumcised also worked effectively in me toward the Gentiles), (NKJV)

3 Acts 1 questions & answers
2. The apostle Paul was Jesus' apostle to the uncircumcision. Who was Jesus' apostle to the circumcision? Support your answer with a Bible verse from Galatians. Peter was Jesus' apostle to the circumcision. GAL 2:8 (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me {Paul} toward the Gentiles:)

4 Acts 1 questions & answers
3. As seen in the Acts of the Apostles, preaching is given a major role. Give several reasons why today it is so important for ecclesias to be involved in preaching. It was commanded as seen in Mark 16:15. Mark16:15 And He said to them, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. It supports the work of bringing glory to God in filling the earth with men and women who know, honour and obey Him. Teaching God's word helps the teacher to meditate on God's word and be a faithful example. Ecclesial fellowship is benefited by working together towards a common goal. Relative Scripture: 1CO 3:6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. MAT 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father … 1 CO 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

5 Acts 1 questions & answers
4. What is the Greek word for "treatise" in Acts 1:1. How does knowing this fact help interpreting John 1:1? Acts1:1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, "Logos" is the Greek word and in John 1:1 is translated "word". Because John 1:14 says the "logos" was made flesh, Trinitarians say Jesus was the "logos" and existed in the beginning as part of a trine Godhead. Acts 1:1 helps to show that "logos" means plan or treatise which in John 1:1 was with God in the beginning much like wisdom was. (Prov. 8:22)

6 Acts 1 questions & answers
5. What are some of the "infallible proofs" in Acts 1:3 that show Jesus rose from the dead? The apostles were living witnesses that Christ rose. Today we can't talk with these apostles but we can analyze the effect Christ's resurrection had on their lives. 1Co. 15:6 says there were above five hundred who witnessed Christ's resurrection. There was no body to be found. It was common knowledge that the soldiers were bribed with money to say his disciples stole Christ's body. (Mt. 28:15) There was the evidence of the holy spirit gifts. There were the Old Testament prophecies. (Psa. 16,22; Isa.53) There were Old Testament echoes, i.e. Abraham offering Isaac.

7 Acts 1 questions & answers
6. In Acts 1:7 it says that "it is not for YOU to know the times and the seasons" when the kingdom will come. Does the "you" also apply to us in this century and which coming as a “thief” or “lightning”? (Support answer) No - for the greater context of Scripture shows that the "generation to come" (Heb. “last generation”) would have signs that would give Christ's approximate return, i.e.: (sign) PSA 102:16 When the LORD shall build up Zion, he shall appear in his glory This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the LORD. (The sign) Mk.13:4 answered in Mk.13:30 Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done. (signs to Israel) * MAT 24:37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be * LK.17:28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; 30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

9 Acts 1 questions & answers
7. T/F Christ ascended up to heaven from the top of Mt. Olivet. No, he ascended from Bethany, Luk 24:50,51. Luke24:50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. 51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.

10 Acts 1 questions & answers
8. Why is it important today to know the answer of the above T/F question? When Jesus returns he is to return in like manner. If he ascended from the top of Mt. Olivet, many in Jerusalem would have seen this. Scripture shows Jesus is to return as a thief which fits Luke 24:50,51. LUKE 24:50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:

11 Acts 1 questions & answers
9. How did the apostle Peter know that Judas was to replaced by another apostle? (Support your answer) Peter would know that many of the Psalms were Messianic. The following Psalm show that Judas was to be replaced: PSA 109:8 Let his days be few; and let another take his office. The holy spirit inspired Peter to quote this verse at this time shows that it applies to their dilemma of whether to replace Judas or not. This also shows the gospel of Judas is spurious.

12 Acts 1 questions & answers
10 In Acts 1:24 the ecclesia casts lots in selecting Matthias. Are we not judging the heart of our brother in the way we elect our brethren for office by ballot rather than by lot? (Support your answer) No -- Acts 1:21 shows a selection process, i.e. that the person chosen had to had witnessed Christ's resurrection, Different ages have different requirements. Our age has a completed Bible and God expects us to use it in making these type of decisions, i.e. in choosing a bishop, 1Tim. 3:1-11 & Titus 1:5-9, Mt.7:16,18 outline the criteria. 1TI 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; 3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; 4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; MAT 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
