English: English I & English II Science: Biology Math: Algebra I Social Studies: US History STAAR will focus on readiness for success in subsequent courses, and ultimately, for college and career readiness.

7 IF their Math score is 450+, a student can exempt the
EOC/STAAR Exemptions 8th graders took the PSAT 8/9 in Oct 2018 IF their Math score is 450+, a student can exempt the Algebra 1 EOC in May IF their Reading/Writing score is 410+, a student can exempt the English 1 EOC in April

18 Course Basics Select enough courses to fill 7 periods
Use a combination of year-long classes A = fall and B = spring and/or semester-long courses Consider graduation requirements (foreign language, fine art, PE) Be aware of grade restrictions Verify students do not repeat classes taken in middle school for high school credit

19 Course Basics Cont’d… Students earn 0.5 credit for each class they successfully pass each semester Students can average to pass to regain credit Ex: 1st semester = 68 (earns 0 credit) 2nd semester = 72 (earns .5 credit) Average for semester = 70 (regain .5 credit from 1st semester) Students must earn 6 credits end of Freshman year to be considered a Sophomore GPA consideration: A student may receive a P or F, indicating Pass/Fail, instead of a grade on a transcript to improve their GPA. Pass/fail classes must be above and beyond 26 required credits. See Course Guide.

22 Athletic Considerations
Athletic Coordinator: Clayton Maple Only one athletic period at a time (1st in season should be in Choices360) There are tryouts for most sports. Some athletic programs begin in the summer. (Ex: Football, Cross Country & Volleyball. Watch our website, athletics page, at end of semester.) If a student does not make the team, you will be placed in PE. 24 Advanced Academics Advanced Academics
Humble ISD schools have an open enrollment policy for Pre-AP and AP courses. Dual - Earning College and High School credit simultaneously. We offer AVID elective classes as a support for students in their advanced classes. Gifted and Talented students are served through Pre-AP, AP and Dual Credit classes. We have our 4 Core Academic Lead teachers available in the commons to answer any questions about classes. Advanced Academics

March 2019 – list of course requests will be distributed to students. March 29, No elective changes after this date due to teacher staffing *Dates are subject to change

26 Procedures for Transferring to KPARK
Transfer applications are available - timeline TBD. It is a lottery based system. Siblings of KPark students receive priority 1st round of approvals are announced before Spring Break KPHS will visit St.Martha’s, CMS & RMS after Spring Break to review Choices360 plans.
