4. BASIC PRODUCTS CARE
41
Lacquer's hard, shiny finish needs to be treated carefully to avoid scratches. The age -- and quality -- of your piece will determine the best way for you to clean it. The finishes on older furniture are delicate and could be marred or even stripped by the solvents in household cleaners. Modern lacquered pieces have a tougher finish. If you have an older piece, test any cleaner you use on a hidden area first. Dust weekly with a soft cloth slightly dampened with water, then quickly blot the area with another soft, dry white cloth. Never use paper towels or pretreated furniture polishing cloths on lacquer. Lacquer is hard but may be dented or chipped so avoid hard blows. Lacquer is glossy and needs to be treated carefully to avoid scratches. Wipe off any dust with soft clean dry cotton cloth. To remove finger prints, smudges or oil spillage, wipe off surface with a damp cotton cloth, using only water or mild soap with water solution followed at once by a dry soft cotton cloth. Strong Cleaning agents are not recommended for cleaning your lacquer item. Waxing is not needed but can be used. Lacquer items should be use indoors Take care when moving furniture and never drag the piece across the floor as this will cause damage to the joints.
