How Can We Survive 5th Grade?
Relax! You and your child will make it. Remind - Remind them daily that school is becoming their responsibility Remind 101 -sign up and watch for important reminders from your pod.

Folder, Spirals, and Journals
How can my child manage them? Every subject is color coded so that your child should be able to keep up with their things easier.

What to Expect Daily? Class begins at 7:45
We pick up from the cafeteria & begin instructional activities. Tardy bell rings at 7:50. We work hard UNTIL 3:00 If you have to schedule an appointment during the school day, please try to make it at the end of the day. Homework *Planner – Check and initial this daily! Make sure your child is completing all assignments. *Study Reading & Science Vocabulary * *Study Multiplication Facts

Wednesday Folders Graded Papers are returned to your child and placed in the Wednesday Take Home folder. Review the papers with your child and sign if needed. Return to your child’s teacher the next day if possible.

What Not To Wear Remember
Shirt straps need to be a “dollar width” about 3 fingers wide Shorts need to be at or below the knee No tight fitting athletic wear

Lunch You are more than welcome to come and join YOUR child for lunch. However, we can not allow friends to join you and your child. Confidentiality and Favoritism - we need to protect one and not allow the other.

Birthdays You may bring cupcakes, cookies, or a PRECUT cake on Friday afternoon only! *Please know students are not back in their homeroom until 2:45, and we are still completing class work at same time!

Appointments Due to the rigor of 5th grade, please attempt to make all appointments at the end of the day. After 2:00 is best

STAAR Test This test is very RIGOROUS.
Your child will be tested in Reading, Math, and Science

What are WE doing to GET READY?
Science - Vocabulary (This is very important) - Hands-On lab experiments Reading Use of STAAR Reading Strategies Developing Literary skills (Author’s Purpose, Compare/Contrast, Cause & Effect) Vocabulary Math Use of problem solving strategies Making all students show work Target Math Higher level thinking skills required in classwork and homework – not just fact recall

This is 5th grade Not only are we preparing your child to be successful on our campus this year, but we are getting them ready for Middle School.

Important Dates STAAR TESTING March 28th – Math March 29th – Reading May 10th – Science These are test dates – Please do not make any doctor appointments for these days, and make sure your child has lunch with them when they arrive. PARENT CONFERENCES/ REPORT CARD PICK-UP Thursday, Oct. 6th. This will be an early release day at 1:00.
