3 Overview of parking 15,000 total parking spaces 11,500 spaces at Fairfax 5 garages 20 parking lots 53% of students overall have parking permits and vehicles-used to be 65% 33% of resident students have permits-used to be 50% 15% of freshmen residents have permits-used to be 40% 66% of employees have permits Accommodate day-to-day classes, plus Patriot Center, Center for the Arts, Hylton Performing Arts Center, Athletics, Conferences and Meetings Operations outsourced to SP+(Standard Parking) Auxiliary operation Relies on self-generated revenue to cover $16 million annually in expenses Revenue from permits, visitors, events, citation Does not receive state budget funds nor tuition dollars Funds 1/3 of shuttle/transportation expenses @MasonParking Mason Parking & Transportation on Facebook

Mason Shuttles shuttle.gmu.edu @MasonShuttles on Twitter Operated by Reston Limousine since 2002 Multiple routes Mason to Metro service every 15 minutes to Vienna Metro from Fairfax Campus Metro Express service every 20 minutes to Vienna Metro Fairfax-SciTech(formerly Prince William Campus) service every 30 minutes includes stop at Manassas Mall:connects with PRTC routes and has park’n’ride Burke Center VRE Gunston Go Bus-service to local shopping centers Seen increase in use by commuters living near shopping centers West Campus Express-service from remote, lower cost parking on campus CUE Bus Mason students and employees ride free on City of Fairfax CUE bus Mason pays subsidy to City of Fairfax

Carpooling/Ridesharing Preferred parking for carpoolers Rebates on parking fees for carpool groups Limited number of complimentary permits for non-driver in carpool Zimride: zimride.com/mason free ridesharing software connecting Mason community can be used for regular or one-time trips Bicycling Named Bicycle Friendly University in 2010 and 2015 1300+ bike parking spaces Bike shelters to provide covered bike parking Free bike registration Giveaway free bike locks, bike lights Bicycle Commuter Choice benefit for employees Ride minimum of 8 times per month to work Given $20 voucher redeemable at local bike shops Sponsor Capital Bikeshare station at Arlington Campus

6 Mason as part of a regional transportation system
Mason completed transportation master plan in Plan on how to support university master plan until 2020 Involved representatives from across the University Involved transportation staff and political leaders from City of Fairfax, Fairfax County, and VDOT Many projects that came out of the master plan, including: Campus Drive $15 million funding came from VDOT Connects east and west campuses, goes underneath Rt.123 Decreases traffic on Braddock Rd by up to 25% at peak Benefit to community and Mason Opened April 2015 Transit Center Funded by Fairfax County bond from 2007 for $1 million Will be constructed in summer/fall 2016 Quadruples bus capacity at Sandy Creek shuttle stop on campus Will allow for Fairfax Connector, CUE & Metro buses on campus

7 Mason as part of regional transportation system
Mason has been much more active as a partner in regional transportation planning Mason to Metro Bike Task Force with City of Fairfax and citizens Been involved in Fairfax County Bicycle Master Plan Been involved in 2040 regional transportation plans Chose 37 acre site in Loudoun County that will be within mile of Silver Line in Phase 2 Science and Technology Campus within one mile of proposed VRE station in Manassas Held VisionFairfax 3 day planning charrette with City of Fairfax in November 2014 Transportation working group addressing how to have Mason Shuttles and CUE bus work better together Mason and the City studying feasibility of joint bike share program planning/visionffxmason
