Key Findings – France The nature of online risk types: The types of online risks that stood out for French citizens compared to the rest of the world included: 1) being called offensive names, 2) receiving unwanted sexual images and messages, and 3) encountering fake news Our social circles became more risky: Within France, risks from family and friends increased to 17%, though the gain was not as pronounced as in other countries The pain from online risks was lower: Within France, moderate to severe pain was experienced by 45% of consumers, below the global average Consequences were up; positive actions were down: French consumers bucked the worldwide trend for consequences from online risks and were less likely to become stressed or lose sleep following risk exposure Millennials and teenage boys were hit hardest by risks: More teenage boys in France suffered moderate to severe pain from online risks compared to their global peers (69% vs. 56%) There was a surge in teens asking for help. In France, teens were below the global average when asking for help from parents or other adults with an online risk, but there was a significant increase compared to the previous year’s study Improvement in Microsoft's Digital Civility Index (DCI): France (-6) registered a gain in DCI and ranks #3 of the 22 countries surveyed

More teens asked for help with online risks
Worldwide, there was a surge in teenagers asking for help with online risks from both parents (+32 points to 42%) and other adults (+19 points to 28%) In France, teens failed to match the jump in the global averages for asking for help from grown- ups, but there was a significant increase compared to the previous year’s study Asking parents for help jumped 33 points Asking another adult for help rose 13 points Q12: Have you ever taken any of the following actions after you were treated in an unsafe or uncivil manner online?
