2. Directions: Review closed-ended versus open-ended questions.
Create a list of ten (10) open-ended questions.
Interview another student using these open-ended questions.
Write an introduction for this student using the information learned.
Present this student to the class.

3. Closed-Ended Questions:
Encourage a short or single-word answer
Not helpful to ask during an interview

4. Open-Ended Questions:
Give the interviewee an opportunity to provide insight and explanation
Begin with words or phrases such as:
Why
How
Tell me about…
Often not technically a question but a statement which implicitly asks for a response
Cannot be answered with a simple “yes” or “no”

5. Closed-Ended versus Open-Ended:
Do you get along well with your parents?
Who will you vote for this election?
Is there any other information you need?
Tell me about your relationship with your parents.
What do you think about the candidates in this election?
How will this information help you?

6. Revision:
Revise each of the following closed-ended questions to open-ended questions:
1. Is it fun to be on the football team?
2. How many children are in your family?
3. Do you like playing softball?
4. As the youngest child in the family, do you think you get your way?
5. Can you give me an example?
