1 The Curious Incident of the dog in the Night-Time
Characters

2 As you read concentrate on the characters in the story
As you read concentrate on the characters in the story. At the conclusion of the novel we are writing a character analysis essay.

3 What should be in my notes?
Character Name Is that character flat or round? Flat? Move on. These characters are not going to make a good character analysis essay. Round? Start forming an opinion about their character. Start with a characterization chart. Your notes can work in two ways: 1. You read an interesting quote: Write in your notes, don't forget the page number, and then ask yourself "What does this demonstrate about the character?" 2. I know what characterization the character has, so write down quotes that match that characterization. You may have to go back and fill out round/ flat when you know more ANNOTATE YOUR OWN QUOTES!!

4 What else should be in my notes?
Character Name Is that character dynamic or static? Static? Beware. Unless they are essential to the story, they may be hard to write about. Dynamic? Same process as the ROUND ones. Again, you may have to go back and fill out Dynamic/ Static Let's list the first few characters together.

5 Who have we met? Christopher John Francis Boone
Wellington (even though he is just a dog) Mrs. Shears (Eileen) Police Officer (Just keep all them together) Siobhan Ed Boone (father) Mrs. Boone (mother, mentioned) Mrs. Alexander (neighbor) Mr. Jeavons (teacher)

6 Christopher Boone Round. (Dynamic Static??)
Character Trait: Easily agitated "He (police) was asking too many questions and he was asking them too quickly. They were stacking up in my head like loaves in the factory where Uncle Terry works." (7) Chris is upset. Even though he doesn't like figurative language he uses a simile to describe his thoughts. He understands the questions, but they need to come slowly. The police officer is being kind of a jerk and not noticing how upset Chris is getting. I wonder if Chris will end up scared of Police, because right now he isn't.

7 Dad (Ed Boone) Characterization: __________________________________-
