4 Poor Lifestyle Choices
High Fat Diet A high fat diet leads to obesity. It can cause high cholesterol levels. Cholesterol can then be deposited in the arteries leading to a condition called atherosclerosis. It can lead to diabetes. It can lead to kidney disease. Saturday, 16 February 2019 Mr G Davidson

5 Poor Lifestyle Choices
High Salt Diet Eating salty foods can lead to high blood pressure. This increases the chances of a stroke or heart attack. Saturday, 16 February 2019 Mr G Davidson

Lack of Exercise This reduces blood circulation. It is recommended that we take regular exercise. This helps to improve circulation to the muscles and counteract obesity. Saturday, 16 February 2019 Mr G Davidson

Tobacco Use Tobacco smoke contains many harmful substances including carbon monoxide. It also contains an addictive drug called nicotine. Nicotine increases your pulse rate as well as your blood pressure. Saturday, 16 February 2019 Mr G Davidson

Smoking tobacco is responsible for lung cancer. Smoking tobacco is also responsible for other diseases such as bronchitis, heart disease, emphysema, etc.. Smoking is in decline in most groups within the population with the exception of teenage girls. Saturday, 16 February 2019 Mr G Davidson

Alcohol Use Alcohol is absorbed into the bloodstream. From here it reaches the brain and can result in the person feeling more relaxed and less inhibited. Alcoholic drinks have a very high energy content and are responsible for weight gain. The liver is responsible for breaking down any alcohol consumed. Saturday, 16 February 2019 Mr G Davidson

12 Lifestyle Choices Stress
Stress is something we all have to cope with at some time in our life. Low level stress can actually help the body because it increases our alertness. Saturday, 16 February 2019 Mr G Davidson

14 Lifestyle Choices There are ways in which we can improve our lifestyle such as: Taking regular exercise. Low fat diet. Low salt diet. No smoking. Reduce alcohol intake. Reduce causes of stress. Saturday, 16 February 2019 Mr G Davidson

15 Lifestyle Choices There are a number of other requirements for a healthy lifestyle. We require a variety of minerals in our diet to keep us healthy such as iron which is essential for the production of haemoglobin. Calcium is essential for healthy bones and teeth. 16 Lifestyle Choices We also require a variety of vitamins for a healthy body. Vitamin D is essential for the proper growth of bones when we are very young. Vitamin A is essential for our night sight. Saturday, 16 February 2019 Mr G Davidson

17 Lifestyle Choices There are also environmental factors which can affect our health. Some heavy metals are toxic to the human body. Saturday, 16 February 2019 Mr G Davidson

18 Lifestyle Choices Lead can cause lead poisoning and so lead free petrol has become the norm rather than leaded petrol which is being phased out. Cadmium is a heavy metal found in pesticides and batteries, and it is poisonous. Carbon monoxide is present in car exhaust fumes and it can cause drowsiness or even death by asphyxiation. 19 Lifestyle Choices All in all, we are subject to choices every day which can have an effect on our lifestyle. It is up to each individual to make the choices which they think are appropriate to themselves. These choices will change as our circumstances change. End of Unit 2 – STRESS TIME!!!!
