1 PREVENTIVE WARM-UP OF PHASE AND GROUND WIRES OF OVERHEAD POWER LINES BY LOADED DEVICES IN THE PERIOD OF GLAZE DANGER Y.R. HUNGER (ELSI GROUP), Ju.V. DEMIN, I.R. PIVCHIK, E.G. CHROMOV ("Sibenergosetproject“ JSC) Russia

2 The damages of Odessaenergo power system
Lines switched off by means of electrical protection Damaged elements of overhead lines

3 Icing prevention currents

4 Variants of load implementation
To switch on high voltage resistors. To switch on electroheaters. To switch on LV lines into short circuit. To use specially designed powerful ground electrodes. To switch on ground wires to 6-35 kV.

5 Example of icing prevention

6 Types of load-producing devices
10 kV module of 1,5 MW (BEL Co. Moscow, Russia) Induction electroheaters «Edison-500» (500 kW, 0,4 kV). Producer–Sibtehnomach (Novosibirsk, Russia)

7 Some features of icing prevention
1. The duration of icing is short (2-5 days), and its start can be forecasted meteorologically. 2. The expected locations of icing are known. 3. The beginning of icing corresponds with the time of minimum load of overhead lines. 4. The network’s disposable power is at its maximum level during the period of icing.

8 CONCLUSIONS The method of icing prevention: newly developed;
allows to protect a whole group of lines with various voltage; doesn't require expensive equipment; allows to minimise additional energy losses.
