CVTG & STG – $1,400,000 Dual Enrollment – $2,007,600 Fostering Futures – $750,000 GEAR UP 2 & 3 – $3,200,000 MCS – $32,361,700 (increase of $6M) MTG: Executive – $32,021,500 House – $38,021,500 Senate – $38,021,500 TIP – $59,800,000 (increase of 1.5M)

3 Program Changes Students must file a FAFSA to be considered eligible for ALL State programs. ONLY MCS and MTG have a FAFSA deadline date for filing (March 1). MTG FAFSA deadline date changed to March 1 MTG award recommendations: Executive – $2,100 House – $2,300 Senate – $2,400 MTG 10-semester renewal rule eliminated MTG cap increases to $4,200,000

TIP cap recommendations: Executive – $8.5M House – $10.0M Senate – removes institutional cap TIP billable tuition rate recommendations: Executive – 3X the average community college in-district tuition rate House – same as executive Senate – no change from the tuition rate

5 MiSSG News Iteration IV is out of DEV and currently in UAT
Expected to go live late-Summer 2018 Iteration IV adds the following programs to MiSSG: Dual Enrollment Fostering Futures Scholarship MI GEAR UP New ineligible reasons will appear on records and reports: High School Graduation After Award Year Makes students ineligible for award if their high school graduation is in a later academic year Example: Students who graduate in 2020 are not eligible for awards in Academic Year FAFSA Not on File: Students will be ineligible for any award in an academic year that MiSSG does not have a FAFSA on file MiSSG Manual is available on our Web site

After further examination of the MNS funds, SSG cannot provide scholarships in Academic Year

7 Program Reminders Important to bill for ALL enrolled students each semester/term of the academic year SSG cannot accurately project remaining expenditures when students are not certified SSG can ONLY make payments on behalf of students for the current academic year TIP and CVTG Letters of Eligibility are NOT required. Some institutions are still telling students it is a requirement, thus creating a barrier for students enrolling Institutions having additional TIP requirements should clearly state those as your requirements and not a requirement of SSG

8 High School Counselor Workshop
Surveyed high school counselors: Workshop date is October 2 from 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Currently surveying colleges for host sites: Survey available until June 14 at 5:00 p.m. As of June 5th, ten institutions have committed to being host sites Reserve space – computer, Internet, projector screen, and parking to accommodate attendees Must include a Federal update and FAFSA demo following MI Student Aid portion Campus tour – optional Light refreshments, snacks, and/or lunch – optional State portion will be approximately one hour: Q & A after each section Counselor SCECHs will not be available Counselors can opt in via Webinar

10 MI Talent Pledge Scholarship
Implementation Fall 2018 Award amounts: $750 one-year certificate $500 two-year certificate ($500 each year) $250 stipend paid each year Eligible students identified by MDHHS – Healthy Michigan Plan High school diploma or recognized equivalent Eligible institutions include proprietary schools Age range at the time of application

Must be enrolled full-time in a qualifying program Maintain at least a 2.25 GPA Institutions must implement a talent guarantee: Provide relevant training in the relevant field at no cost to graduate who successfully completes program Institutions are encouraged to work with their local Michigan Works agencies to implement this guarantee

Students must complete an application – No deadline date for Academic Year Categories: IT and Computer Science Manufacturing Healthcare Other Professional Trades Business and Other Programs within these categories have yet to be defined Criteria: Credential MUST result in a qualifying high-demand field One-year certificate must be completed within one year Two-year certificate or associate degree must be completed within two years

13 MI Talent Pledge Scholarship – Cont.
Prorated amount of the stipend is forwarded to students following each regular meeting with a coach, mentor, or counselor as an incentive for the students to meet Stipend payments will be sent to the institutions on behalf of their students. Institutions will be responsible for disbursing stipends
