4
What is a health context ?
A health context is environment in which an individual only physiological needs will be taken care off such as: Hospice, Hospital, GP, Etc…
5
What is a social care context
A social care context is an environment in which physiological needs along with other aspects of Maslow Hierarchy of Needs are taken into account: Clinical psychologist, Therapist, Children’s home, Family centre.
6
Biological approach example
An example of the biological approach being used within a health context would be the sedation of an individual who has arrived to A and E following a drink binge in order to prevent them form hurting themselves and others. An example of the biological approach being used in a social care context would be the prescription of antidepressant to an individual diagnosed with postnatal depression in order to help them feel better about their new position as a mother and feel emotionally stable in their new role. When looking at Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, this would link in with the esteem aspect of the pyramid as through the use of antidepressant, this young mother will build up higher sense of esteem with regards to her ability as a new parent and will feel better about herself.
