School Improvement Plan
School and Nursery Improvement – Priority 2 Improve attainment in Literacy Staff training in supporting children with literacy difficulties – dyslexia Established Nursery pre reading and pre writing learning group which also focuses on developing speech and language skills as well as fine motor skills. Introduced ‘soft start’ in P1 which and purchased resources to allow a sensory approach to the teaching and learning of initial sounds. Used PEF money to source EYP to support children in the areas of reading, writing and talking and listening through purposeful play. Used PEF money to purchase new furniture to create inviting writing and reading areas in the infant open area to encourage creative writing and reading for enjoyment. Literacy working party used POLAAR to evaluate classroom and open area environment to ensure they are ‘literacy rich’. Plan to use book fair commission money to purchase varied reading materials to enhance class libraries such as comics and magazines. Staff training in Language Land- an intervention used to enhance speech and language in early years. Replenished PM reading books in the infants to create ‘core reading programme’ which is consistent and progressive across P1-3. All staff attended Active Literacy refresher training. Attended Literacy Coach Training which gave me the knowledge and skills to administer diagnostic literacy assessments. Will begin to share this knowledge with staff during in-service day to equip them with the skills to administer these assessments to inform next steps in their own children.

PUPIL EQUITY FUND WHAT IS THE ATTAINMENT GAP IN OUR SCHOOL
Pupil Equity Funding is money that will go to your child's school to help them provide the best possible opportunities for children's learning. In particular, it is there to help the school support children who experience barriers to learning and who might be falling behind or not getting the same chances in their education because their family is experiencing poverty or other financial difficulties. This money is given to schools as part of the Scottish Government's Scottish Attainment Challenge. WHAT IS THE ATTAINMENT GAP IN OUR SCHOOL FOCUS ON CHILDREN INDENTIFIED SIMD 1-2 – FOR EVERYONE INTERVENTIONS FOR EQUITY – WE NEED TO MEASURE WHAT WE DO – IS THIS CHANGE MAKING A DIFFERENCE
