8 Your Job as a Northern Journalist:
Today you will assume the role of an 1800s northern reporter whose assignment is to describe slavery to the people of the North. You will work in pairs and move around the room to explore different aspects of slave life--pictures and descriptions of what colonial life is like—and take notes on them. At the end of class you will turn your notes into a journal entry that might have appeared in a Northern newspaper in the 1800s.

10 Life of an Enslaved African Journal Entry
You are a northern journalist who has been living in the south and learning about the life of Enslaved Africans. While in the south, you kept a journal to record thoughts and impressions of the place, its people, and their cultures. You want your journal to be published so the people of the north will better understand what life is like for enslaved people in the south. Write in journal entry format (dates, etc) Explain what life is like for Enslaved Africans in the South. Include at least 5 aspects of slave life (5 boxes on your chart) Write at least one page!
