Functional dyspepsia subsets most likely to show beneficial responses to tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) therapy. On the left, the 21% of patients with ulcer-like epigastric pain (yellow) exhibited significant responses to amitriptyline. On the right, the 70% of patients with normal solid phase gastric emptying (blue) showed significant improvements on amitriptyline.
