Types of Admission Rolling:
Applications are accepted throughout the year Early Decision: For the school you definitely will go to if you’re accepted; binding contract Early Action: Similar to Early Decision but not a binding contract Regular: For students applying during the standard application period

College Admission Tests
SAT- upcoming tests: 11/3, 12/1 ACT- upcoming tests: 10/27, 12/8 Fee waivers are available for students on free/reduced lunch and in AVID

SAT vs. ACT Reading: SAT provides more time but passages more complex
Math: ACT has more geometry and more reliance on a calculator Science: ACT has a standalone science section Grammar/Essay: Grammar similar but essay prompts different on each

TSI Assessment College placement test (Texas)
Placement exam for college courses. Prep information online. May be exempt from taking the TSI based on SAT or ACT scores. Students must consult with each college to verify the criteria for being exempt.

College Days 2 for senior year
During visit, get a letter from the college acknowledging your visit college letterhead dates of visit your name Turn letter in to your house office when you return to KPHS

College Application Steps
1. Complete online applications 2. Order transcript/request forms or recommendations (if required) 3. Send ACT/SAT scores 4. Send any additional information needed (letters of recommendations)

Step 1: Complete Online Applications
Texas Common Application: National Common Application: Visit other websites as needed *Application fees can be waived for students on free/reduced lunch and in AVID (a fee waiver must be used for an ACT/SAT to be eligible)

Step 2: Order Transcript
See the registrars (front office) Free if sent to Texas public university & some in-state private schools $2.00 each if mailed Have the address of the admissions office(s) Please allow two weeks for transcripts to be sent (paper and electronic) Apply Texas colleges sent electronically

Step 3: Send ACT or SAT Scores
SAT/ACT/TSI scores are not on your high school transcript. You will need to request that the testing agency (college board or ACT) send your official scores to the colleges.

Recommendations Should be written by someone who knows you well
Provide a copy of your resume or submit an information sheet to the person writing the letter Give the person at least 2 weeks notice If being mailed directly to the college, provide a blank, stamped envelope to the person writing your letter

Need based; Money that does not have to be repaid Loans: Money that does need to be repaid Work Study Program: Job on campus arranged by the college Scholarships: Free money
