6 Separation of Powers Separation of Powers is a government principle in which the powers of the government is divided among different branches, each with their own roles and responsibilities . What would cause the framers of the Constitution to establish a system of separation of powers?

7 Checks and Balances Checks and Balances is the system in which each branch of the government has the ability to limit the powers of the other branches to prevent any from becoming too powerful.

1- What check does the Supreme Court have over the Legislative Branch? 2- What check does the Supreme Court have over the Executive Branch? 3- Why do you think the founding fathers made the Supreme Court Justice's job for life as opposed to being elected like other government officials? Courts can declare Legislative acts UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Courts can declare Executive actions & orders acts UNCONSTITUTIONAL. So Judges don’t have to worry about running for re-election. It takes the politics out of their decisions.
