5 What do we learn in science this year?
Metric & Measurements Scientific Method Graphing Green Book = Ecology & the Environment Ecology – populations, communities & ecosystems Living resources – land, water air Energy resources – renewable & nonrenewable

6 What are the goals for my child in this class?
To continue to be an organized student To enhance cooperative learning skills To increase problem solving ability/ critical thinking To have a better understanding of environmental science and the environment around them

7 How will my child achieve these goals?
Keeping an organized binder Group work Note taking Hands-on activities/ Labs Demonstrations Diagrams

8 What is the homework policy?
HW is given daily! HW is checked randomly the day of the test for completion worth 2-5 points No late HW is accepted HW may be turned in for accuracy. Labs and long-term projects may be turned in late with a letter grade deduction for each day after the due date. HW is posted on Justice website

9 How will my child be assessed?
Tests: announced a week in advance either a chapter or unit Quizzes: either announced or unannounced Homework Class work Labs/ Projects Notebook A+

10 How will I know my child’s progress?
Check the HAC Interims grades are calculated halfway through every marking period.

11 What if my child is absent/vacation?
Students will need to see me the next day during RA to check on missed assignments. Make up work will need to be completed within an appropriate amount of time. If student is planning to be absent, he/she can receive the work ahead of time.

12 Where can my child go for additional help in science?
RA period(5A Days) Clinic on Thursdays after school

13 SCIENCE FAIR OPPORTUNITIES
Intel PJAS Judging Students are judged, within their category and grade level, against all others in their category Students are judged, within their category and grade level, against a rubric, based on the category Presentation Students present using tri-fold posters to judges (students also need an abstract (bring at 5-10 copies) and a research report) Students present a 10 minute talk with overheads to judges Progression First and second place award winners at the local fair (Bucks County) can go on to the Delaware Valley Science Fair, then the International Fair. First place award winners at the local fair (District 1C) can go on to the State Competition. Special note Team projects are allowed NO team projects
