2. Until 17 May every pound given to this appeal, up to £2 million, will be doubled by the UK government.
Here is what your gift today could do:

3. £4 doubled could prevent one tonne (1,000kg) of waste from being burnt and releasing toxic fumes, meaning the air is cleaner to breathe.
£10 doubled could train three families like Rubina’s to manage waste in a healthy and sustainable way.
£45 doubled could train two people to work as waste collectors at a recycling hub, enabling them to lift themselves out of poverty.

4. Your donation will help Tearfund transform lives around the world where the need is greatest.
Match funding from the UK government will be used in Pakistan to help families like Rubina’s who are affected by excessive waste, including plastics.

5. Tearfund’s partners in Pakistan will help slum communities to manage their waste through recycling hubs so it doesn’t end up
in waterways or burnt on the streets.
These hubs will also provide employment for local people so they can lift themselves out of poverty.

10. Father God,
We lift up families suffering today, surrounded by waste.
We pray particularly for people in Pakistan’s slums who are working hard to provide for their children, but whose health is suffering because of excessive waste. And for Tearfund’s partners bringing communities together to clean up and recycle rubbish.

11. Thank you for the earth and all the resources you have given us, and we are sorry when we are not good stewards of your creation.
