3. Old kingdom Rulers The period of the Old Kingdom began about 2600 BC
Egyptians built cities& expanded trade.
The Egyptian kings, called Pharaohs, lived with their families in Palaces.

Pharaohs appointed many officials to carry out their wishes for:

Made sure crops planted

They believed the unity of the kingdom depended on a strong ruler.
They saw the Pharaoh as the son of Re, the sun god.
Egyptians thought the Pharaoh was a god on earth and controlled Egypt’s welfare.

The Egyptians worshipped many deities, or gods & goddesses.
They believed these deities controlled the forces of nature.
