1 MLA Formatting and Citation

2 What is a bibliography/works cited page?
It is where you put the complete citations for the sources you used in your research or in your analysis in academic writing. Remember, all sources used in academic writing must be cited! Textbook: Miller, Arthur. “The Crucible”. Glencoe Literature: The Reader’s Choice: 11, McGraw Hill, 2007, pp Website citations: Title of site. Publication Company. Date of Publication. Web. Date of access. <url>

3 What is highlighted in green is the source I pulled from for my essay
What is highlighted in green is the source I pulled from for my essay! This is where I get my in-text citation from as well.

4 What is an in-text citation?
An in-text citation is the shortened citation you use within an essay to reference your works cited page/bibliography. Imagine having to put the entire citation in the essay; it would interrupt the way you read the essay. This is why in-text citations are necessary. In-Text citations: Textbook: (Miller, #) Website: (Title of Site) Make sure all quotes highlighted in peer review have a citation!

5 What is highlighted in yellow is the source information
What is highlighted in yellow is the source information! It was not my original thought. Because of this, I needed the in-text citation to show that to my reader. What is in green is my in-text citation, referencing my bibliography!

6 What about formatting? There are many features of MLA formatting that you have to follow when setting up your Word document or Google Document. First, you need Times New Roman 12 point font: Always choose twelve point as your font size, and Times New Roman as your font style.

7 Double spacing: Always look for the up and down arrow with lines beside it. The correct spacing is either 2.0 or double, depending on the program you’re typing in.

8 Student Header Students need to have a student header at the top left of the paper. This should include the following information: Student Name Class Name Teacher Name Today’s Date

9 Page Number Header Students need to insert a page number header, using the following directions. 1. Click insert 2. Header/Page Number 3. Page Number 4. Top Right corner It should have the student’s last name before the number that appears.

10 A title! Every paper needs a title!
Brainstorm one based on your claim, or based on the goal of the essay. It should be centered on the page, and unbolded or italicized.

11 Indents and Left-Justified
Students should always indent for new paragraphs. Do this by pressing the tab button on the keyboard when you start a new paragraph. The essay should be left aligned or justified when typing. This can be done by clicking the multiple lines at varied lengths, and choosing the one aligned to the left.
