9/19/12 BR – What are the 5 keys to academic success? Today: Social Studies Disciplines

2 History- refers to the study and interpretation of past humans, families and societies as preserved primarily through written sources.

3 Anthropology- consists of the study of humanity and culture
Anthropology- consists of the study of humanity and culture. Anthropologists have tended to concentrate on the seemingly more "traditional" institutions and customs of non-Western, often tribal, societies

4 Geography- is the study of the Earth's features and of the distribution of life on the earth, including human life and the effects of human activity.

5 Psychology- involves the study of the human mind, brain, and behavior.

6 Sociology- studies the social rules and processes that organize people in society as individuals and as members of groups.

7 Political Science- concerning the theory and practice of politics and the description and analysis of political systems and political behaviour.

8 Economics- the study of human choice behavior and how it effects the production, distribution, and consumption of scarce resources. Economics studies how people seek to satisfy needs and wants through incentives, choices, and allocation of scarce resources.
