Engage With your partner, take 5 minutes to make a diagram with absolute value at the center and anything you know about absolute value around the edges. You can write about when you have used it before, what it's definition is, what it is represented by, when you think it can be useful, and anything else you can think of having to do with absolute value.

Absolute Value Function
The simplest example of an absolute value function is f(x)= |x|. The graph of the absolute value of a linear function in two variables is V-shaped and symmetric about a vertical line called the axis of symmetry. Such a graph contains a single maximum point or a single minimum point, called the vertex.

Exploration For each of the following absolute value functions, graph the parent function, y= |x|, and graph the transformation of the function given. Then, complete the table of values to check if your graph is correct. I will start this example with you and you may complete it on your own with the rest of the worksheet. Example: 𝑦= 𝑥+4 −2 X 𝑦= 𝑥+4 −2

How did we do? I have assigned you to groups.
Each group will receive one post-it paper. I will walk around and assign a problem from this activity to your group. You will graph the exercise on your post-it paper and be prepared to explain to the class why you graphed it the way you did. When your group is done, raise your hands, and I will collect it to post it at the front of the room.

Evaluation Take a sheet of paper and write down what from 2.6 and 2.7 feels most confusing to you. You must describe why this part of the content is the most confusing or give an example of a type of problem that would be confusing. You have two minutes to complete this. When you are done, remain seated quietly and wait for the next step.
